9/13/14- “We believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another.” |
― Veronica Roth, Divergent
I struggled with what this quote said the last few days. A friend of mine (lets call her Girl A) came up to me and insulted another girl (Girl B). I had no problem with Girl B, but I agreed with Girl A anyway. I just felt horrible all week even though Girl B will never find out about it. It's easy for me to stand up for the poor, the lonely, those who need help in other countries...to do the extraordinary....but it takes a huge amount of bravery to do ordinary things...it's easy to stand up for what everyone else is standing up for...but what about going against the crowd? I encourage you all to go against the crowd in order to truly make the difference :)
The 10th grade kids I’m teaching are reading Night by Elie Wiesel. It’s the story about a Jewish teenager named Elie (the author) and his experiences during the Holocaust. Please think about and practice what this quote says (talking to myself as well). I encourage everyone to read this book- “A slim volume of terrifying power”.
